After you get a place

There is no national date. MOE publishes none, and states only that you and your child are encouraged to attend the school orientation. Each school sets its own, and in practice November is the common month. MOE also says that if you cannot attend, you can contact the school to make an alternative arrangement. Your school announces its date after places are confirmed, so treat any date you hear from another school as that school's, not yours.

MOE's academic calendar puts the start of Term 1 for primary schools at Monday 4 January 2027, with Term 1 running to 12 March 2027. MOE does not publish a separate first day for Primary 1 pupils. Many schools do give P1 its own opening day before the rest of the school returns, but that is the school's arrangement, so your reporting date and time come from the school.

Not freely. MOE states that children of Chinese, Malay and Indian ethnicities study their own Mother Tongue, and that a child registered with a double-barrelled race is assigned one based on the first component. There are application routes rather than open choice: to take the second component of a double-barrelled race, to take any official Mother Tongue where the family is Eurasian or of another race, or for a non-Tamil-speaking Indian child to take a Non-Tamil Indian Language such as Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi or Urdu. Each of those goes through the school and is subject to approval. Higher Mother Tongue is not a P1 matter: schools may offer it from P3.

For a Singapore Citizen at a government or government-aided primary school, MOE's current published figures are no monthly school fee and a monthly miscellaneous fee of S$13. A Singapore PR pays S$330 a month plus the same S$13. These are MOE's 2026 figures, and at the time of writing MOE has not published a 2027 schedule, so confirm the 2027 amount on MOE's fees page nearer the time. No. It is a POSB product, not a school requirement, and MOE has stated in a parliamentary reply that signing up is optional and that cash remains available. Children can also use the school smart card or an EZ-Link card. It is not enabled at every primary school either, so check POSB's published list for your school before buying into the idea that your child needs one.

Parents Gateway is MOE's app for school-to-home communication, used for announcements, consent forms and travel declarations. Schools commonly ask incoming parents to install it, and it is worth doing when your school asks. Two things worth knowing: MOE does not list it as a step in the P1 registration process on any of its registration pages, and it is not how registration results are announced. Almost nothing on this page is fixed nationally. The term start date is, and the fee amounts are. Everything else, orientation, the student care application, uniform and textbook ordering, collection days, runs to your school's own timetable, which is why the same month can look different at two schools a street apart. The one item with a built-in lag rather than a deadline is a paper GIRO form, which MOE says can take up to 3 months to process.
