Starting Primary 1 at Xinmin Primary School

Has your child secured a Primary 1 place at Xinmin?

Use this page to track the important steps between receiving the registration result and your child’s first day of school—from orientation and student care to uniforms, books, transport and daily routines.

Information for the 2027 P1 cohort will be added when Xinmin releases its official instructions. The school’s most recently published orientation guide was for the 2026 P1 cohort (released 30 December 2025); its content could not be directly retrieved during this research, so treat the reference below as a pointer to the school’s own announcement rather than a reproduction of it.

What to do after receiving your P1 result

Step 1: Confirm the result

Parents can check the P1 registration result through the P1 Registration Portal from 8am on the relevant result-announcement day.

After a successful result:

  • read every instruction shown in the portal;
  • save a copy of the result;
  • check the email address and mobile number used during registration;
  • watch Parents Gateway and official school communications;
  • note any deadline for reporting or submitting information;
  • do not rely only on unofficial parent groups.

Step 2: Wait for Xinmin’s official onboarding instructions

Xinmin should inform incoming parents about the school-specific process after registration.

Information may include orientation date and session, whether the child must attend, documents to submit, pupil-information forms, medical and allergy declarations, emergency contacts, transport arrangements, student-care application, uniform and book ordering, first-day reporting, and communication platforms.

The page should display each item only after it has been confirmed through Xinmin’s official website, Parents Gateway or direct school communication.

Update card

2027 Xinmin P1 instructions have not yet been published publicly. We will update this section when the school releases official information.

P1 orientation

What parents should expect to learn

A useful P1 orientation should answer where and when the child reports, how classes are allocated, which gate P1 pupils use, arrival and dismissal arrangements, reporting time, uniform and grooming requirements, recess and canteen routines, what to pack, communication with form teachers, student care and school bus, learning-support arrangements, and first-week transition support.

The official date and programme for Xinmin’s 2027 P1 orientation are not currently published. The school’s 2026 P1 Orientation Guide, released 30 December 2025, is the most recent reference point for what a Xinmin orientation guide typically covers, but its content should not be assumed to carry over unchanged to 2027.

Questions to ask during orientation

  1. What time should P1 pupils arrive?
  2. Which entrance should families use?
  3. Is dismissal different during the first week?
  4. Where should parents or caregivers wait?
  5. How are school-bus and student-care pupils dismissed?
  6. What happens if the authorised caregiver is late?
  7. What should pupils bring on the first day?
  8. When will the full timetable be issued?
  9. How much pocket money should pupils carry?
  10. How should parents report an absence?
  11. How do parents contact the form teacher?
  12. What support is available if a child struggles to settle in?
  13. What are the rules for medication and allergies?
  14. Are parents allowed to enter the school on the first day?
  15. When will CCA information be released?

Reporting time and first-day arrangements

Xinmin’s School Rules and Expectations page states that pupils must enter the school premises and be seated in the school hall or classroom by:

7.30am

The school operates as a single session. The exact daily dismissal time was not clearly published on the pages reviewed.

Parents must still confirm whether P1 pupils report at a different time on the first day, whether dismissal is earlier during the transition period, and the correct P1 entrance and dismissal gate.

Confirm before assuming

Do not present 7.30am as more than the general reporting time unless the school confirms the exact P1 first-day arrangement.

Uniform and PE attire

Current official suppliers

Xinmin currently lists Magdalene Sewing Centre Pte Ltd as its uniform supplier (telephone 6293 5840, WhatsApp 8683 6993); uniforms are also available directly through the school bookshop.

What to buy

Wait for the incoming P1 instructions before confirming quantities. Parents will generally need to check whether the child requires school uniform sets, PE attire, school socks, approved shoes, name tags, and any house-colour item.

Plan for your own family

Do not prescribe a fixed number of sets for every family. Laundry frequency, PE schedule and budget differ.

Published attire and grooming rules

Xinmin’s School Rules and Expectations page requires the prescribed uniform, unmodified, with shirts tucked in at all times, plain white shoes and socks, and approved PE attire for PE lessons.

Its published grooming guidance includes:

  • no coloured or highlighted hair, and no funky or inner-cut hairstyles;
  • boys must keep hair short and neat, not touching the ears or collar, and must be clean-shaven;
  • girls with hair touching the collar must tie it up neatly, and long fringes must be pinned up, using only plain black hair bands or clips;
  • no jewellery except one pair of plain ear studs for girls;
  • fingernails must be kept short and clean, without nail polish.

Uniform-ordering tips

  • Order early after the school confirms the correct items.
  • Compare Magdalene Sewing Centre against the school bookshop for stock and delivery timing.
  • Check whether exchange is allowed.
  • Do not alter or label every item before confirming the fit.
  • Confirm whether name tags are ordered separately.
  • Keep the receipt until the child has tried everything.
  • Avoid buying excessive quantities before receiving the PE timetable.

Books and school supplies

Current bookshop

Xinmin currently lists Pacific Bookstores as its appointed bookshop, with in-person purchase hours of Monday to Friday, 8.30am–9am, and a home-delivery charge of $14.60.

2027 P1 booklist status

Not published yet

The 2027 P1 booklist was not found published on the pages reviewed. Any earlier-year booklist belongs to that cohort and must not be treated as confirmed for 2027.

Status: 2027 P1 booklist — awaiting release.

Once published, this page will display the official publication date, compulsory books, optional items, Mother Tongue Language materials, exercise books and stationery, online ordering, delivery or collection arrangements, the final ordering deadline, and items supplied by the school.

Book-ordering checklist

Before paying, check whether the list is specifically marked for 2027, whether every item is compulsory, which Mother Tongue Language level applies, whether siblings’ old books can still be used, whether editions or workbook pages have changed, whether the school supplies any books directly, whether book wrapping is required, and whether names should be written before school begins.

Check before you buy

Do not buy from a copied image without checking it against the official list.

What should go into the school bag?

The final packing list should be based on the child’s timetable and Xinmin’s instructions.

First-day provisional checklist

Use only after confirming the school’s instructions:

  • school bag;
  • communication folder;
  • pencil case;
  • pencils and eraser;
  • coloured pencils;
  • water bottle;
  • pocket money or approved payment method;
  • tissues;
  • name-labelled personal items;
  • required forms;
  • medication under the school’s authorised process.

Do not automatically pack every textbook, all exercise books, expensive stationery, toys, smart devices, or medication without informing the school.

Label personal belongings

Parents may label the school bag, water bottle, pencil case, lunch container, uniform, PE attire, and books and files.

Avoid displaying unnecessary personal data externally. A child’s full address, identification number or parent’s private contact details should not be visibly printed on the outside of the school bag.

School bus registration

Xinmin’s appointed bus operator is JNB Travel Pte Ltd, with fares effective 1 January 2026 tiered by distance, up to $200 for a two-way service.

Apply only after confirming

  • the operator serves your address;
  • there is space on the route;
  • morning pickup time;
  • afternoon drop-off time;
  • one-way or two-way fare;
  • estimated journey duration;
  • pickup-point location;
  • first-day arrangements;
  • service on shortened school days;
  • arrangement after CCAs or enrichment;
  • termination and refund terms.
Ask JNB Travel about route and pickup time →

Important

Submitting an application does not necessarily confirm a seat, doorstep pickup, the exact route, or a specific travel duration. Wait for written confirmation from the operator.

Student care application

Xinmin has a school-based Student Care Centre operated by NASCANS. Parents interested in a place should visit the General Office to complete an application form with the required documentation; the school’s FAQ states that priority is given to younger pupils who lack after-school supervision, and admission to Xinmin does not itself guarantee a student-care place.

Apply as early as permitted

Working parents should check when applications for incoming P1 pupils open, whether there is a waiting list, the priority criteria, monthly fees (currently listed at $271.20), subsidies, operating hours, school-holiday care, meals, homework supervision, late-collection charges, and closure dates.

Check student-care vacancy with NASCANS → View Xinmin student-care fees and details →

Associate Parent Volunteer (APV) scheme

Xinmin runs an Associate Parent Volunteer scheme separate from general student-care or bus registration. A registration window was published for the 2026–2027 period; check the school’s current announcement for the next cycle, and confirm directly with the school and MOE’s P1 registration guide whether volunteering carries any Phase 2B relevance for a future registration year.

Medical, allergy and support information

Parents should inform the school through its authorised process about any significant food allergy, medication, medical condition, mobility need, learning need, developmental need, or emotional or behavioural support need.

Prepare relevant documents where applicable: medical report, allergy action plan, medication instructions, psychological or developmental assessment, therapist recommendations, and preschool transition notes.

Do not submit sensitive documents through unofficial parent groups or public forms.

Medication questions

Confirm whether pupils may carry medication, who administers it, where it is stored, what written authorisation is required, what happens during school trips, emergency-response procedures, and whether expiry dates are checked.

Preparing your child for the transition

MOE advises parents to help children understand their new environment, routines, relationships and school rules, and to assure them that teachers can help when they need assistance.

Skills to practise before P1

Personal independence

Help your child practise using the toilet independently, washing and drying their hands, opening food containers, carrying a tray, managing pocket money, filling or opening a water bottle, wearing and removing shoes, recognising personal belongings, and packing simple items.

Communication

Practise saying: “I do not understand.” “I need help.” “I cannot find my class.” “I feel unwell.” “I have an allergy.” “Who should I go home with?” “Someone took my item.”

Classroom readiness

The goal is not to complete the P1 curriculum early. More useful preparation includes listening to short instructions, taking turns, sitting for an age-appropriate period, asking before leaving, completing a simple task, coping with small mistakes, and putting away materials.

Emotional readiness

Talk about being nervous, not knowing everyone, making new friends, asking teachers for help, what happens at dismissal, who will collect the child, and the daily routine after school. Avoid repeatedly warning the child that primary school will be difficult or strict.

Practise the morning routine

Two to four weeks before school begins:

  1. Move bedtime gradually.
  2. Wake the child near the expected school-day time.
  3. Practise dressing and eating breakfast.
  4. Test the actual route during weekday traffic—this matters especially at Xinmin given the lack of a nearby MRT station.
  5. Let the child carry the packed bag.
  6. Practise reaching school before the expected reporting time.
  7. Review the pickup plan.

Morning-plan tool

Task Planned time
Wake up
Wash and dress
Breakfast
Leave home
Reach school
School begins7.30am

The child should receive sufficient sleep. Do not choose an unrealistically late bedtime because the school seems geographically close on a map.

Prepare for recess

Before school begins, practise choosing food, ordering clearly, paying, checking change, carrying food safely, eating within a limited period, cleaning up, returning the tray, and asking for help.

Pocket-money trial

Parents can run a home exercise: give the child a small fixed amount, display two or three pretend food prices, ask the child to choose, let the child pay, check the change together, and practise keeping the remaining money safely.

Wait for Xinmin’s current information before recommending an exact daily pocket-money amount or payment method.

Parent communication setup

Incoming parents should confirm which channels Xinmin uses for official announcements, consent forms, payments, parent briefings, teacher communication, urgent notices, and homework information.

Parents Gateway is part of Xinmin’s official parent resource area, but the incoming cohort should follow the school’s specific setup instructions.

Communication rules

  • Keep parent contact details updated.
  • Check official messages regularly.
  • Use the form teacher’s stated channel.
  • Do not expect teachers to respond instantly outside working hours.
  • Avoid raising individual complaints in class group chats.
  • Keep medical, learning and family information private.
  • Treat parent-created WhatsApp groups as unofficial.

First-week family plan

Before the first day

  • Confirm reporting time.
  • Confirm dismissal time.
  • Confirm the entrance and pickup point.
  • Label belongings.
  • Prepare the correct uniform.
  • Pack only the instructed items.
  • Test transport.
  • Explain the day to the child.
  • Prepare emergency contacts.
  • Agree on the person collecting the child.

On the first morning

  • Allow additional time.
  • Keep the goodbye calm and clear.
  • Remind the child who will collect them.
  • Avoid transferring adult anxiety to the child.
  • Follow the school’s access and photography rules.

After school

Ask specific, neutral questions: “Who did you sit with?” “What did you do during recess?” “Which part was easy?” “Was anything confusing?” “Who can you ask for help tomorrow?”

Avoid beginning with “Did anyone bully you?”, “Was the teacher fierce?”, or “Did you finish all your work?”

When should parents contact the teacher?

Contact the form teacher when there is a meaningful concern involving persistent distress, repeated refusal to attend, a lost dismissal arrangement, a medical issue, an allergy or medication, repeated friendship difficulty, inability to manage basic routines, a major learning concern, or a change in family circumstances affecting the child.

Allow normal transition time for minor issues, but do not delay reporting an urgent safety or medical concern.

First-month adjustment tracker

Parents can privately track how their child is settling across the first four weeks, using three categories: settling well, still adjusting, needs discussion.

Area Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4
Morning separation
Sleep and waking
Eating at recess
Managing belongings
Talking about school
Friendships
Homework routine
Emotional regulation

This tracker is for your own private use — print or copy it if it helps. Nothing you note here is submitted to us or shown publicly.

Not found published at the time of review.

Where can uniforms be purchased?

Xinmin currently appoints Magdalene Sewing Centre Pte Ltd; uniforms are also available directly through the school bookshop.

Pacific Bookstores is the current appointed bookshop.

Who operates the school bus?

JNB Travel Pte Ltd, with fares effective 1 January 2026 tiered by distance up to $200 two-way.

No. Xinmin’s FAQ directs parents to apply via the General Office, with priority given to younger pupils lacking after-school supervision.

What is the reporting time?

Xinmin publishes a reporting time of 7.30am. The exact daily dismissal time and P1-specific first-week timings should still be confirmed.

Should parents buy books before the new list is released?

No. Transition preparation should focus on routines, independence, communication, social adjustment and willingness to learn rather than completing the P1 syllabus in advance.

Our assessment

What is already available

Xinmin currently provides clear public access to its reporting time, school rules and attire requirements, its uniform vendor, bookshop, school-bus operator and current fares, student-care provider, and official school contact details.

What the incoming cohort still needs

For the 2027 P1 cohort, parents still require confirmed information about orientation, first-day reporting, first-week dismissal, exact daily dismissal time, P1 recess, class allocation, the 2027 booklist, student-care application timing, bus-route confirmation for specific addresses, and parent communication setup.

Bottom line

The highest-value Starting P1 page is not a generic list of school-readiness advice. It should operate as a live, cohort-specific onboarding checklist that tells parents what has been confirmed, what action is due next, what remains unpublished, and which old information must not be reused.

Information note

Orientation, booklists, reporting arrangements, providers, fees and contact details may change.

Always confirm decision-critical information through Xinmin Primary School, Parents Gateway, MOE, or the school’s appointed provider.
