What the June break is
The June school holidays are the mid-year break: Term 2 closes on the Friday, the break runs four full weeks Saturday to Sunday, and Term 3 starts the Monday after. It is the longest pause in the school year apart from the year-end holidays, and it lands right at the halfway point, when a Primary 1 child has one full semester of big school behind them.

Structuring a long break
Four weeks is a gift and a trap. Fill every day and it becomes a second school term; leave it all empty and it drifts. A rhythm that works for most families is to give the break a loose shape in three parts: rest, the one proper block, and a gentle reset.
Week 1
Proper rest
The first week is for coming down from the term. Slow mornings, unstructured play, catching up on sleep. A child who has just done ten weeks of P1 has earned a genuinely empty few days, and the break is long enough that rest now costs nothing later.
Weeks 2 and 3
The activity and travel window
This is where a stint fits: a week of sports camp or a swim intensive (Sport Singapore's ActiveSG runs school-holiday sport programmes), and the middle weeks are the usual window if you are travelling. Around the anchor, keep the days light: the National Library Board runs holiday programmes at the public libraries, and museums, parks, reservoirs and beaches fill the gaps cheaply.
Week 4
A gentle reset before Term 3
The last week works best when it drifts back towards school shape: bedtimes edging earlier, mornings waking up a little sooner, school things found and ready. Nothing formal, just enough that the first Monday of Term 3 is not a shock.

Four weeks is the break that tests a working household, and the good news is that the usual cover keeps running. School-based student care centres generally operate right through the school holidays on full-day hours. Fees still apply for the holiday period, and centres differ on how they bill and schedule the break, so confirm both with yours before Term 2 ends. On top of that base, holiday camps can add a week of something different: a sport, the outdoors, making things. Book early, because every school in Singapore breaks at the same time and the popular slots go fast. And if grandparents or a helper are covering some days, a couple of planned outings a week, a library programme or a swim, keeps those days from defaulting to screens.

Do schools give holiday homework over the June break? +
There is no MOE-wide rule, so it is set school by school. Four weeks is long enough that some schools do send a small amount home, but for Primary 1 it is usually light: reading, or a short practice piece. Check the teacher's note from the last week of Term 2 so you know early rather than discovering it in week four.

Four empty weeks is where screens quietly take over, and the fix that works is shape rather than rationing. Give each day one anchor that is not a screen, a camp morning, a library trip, a swim, a park, and screens fill the edges rather than the whole day. It also helps to keep the biggest blocks of screen time to a set part of the day, so it stops being the default answer to boredom.
